Background – CASA, The Committee to House the Bay Area

CASA is a committee formed under the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in the Bay Area “to identify and act upon game-changing regional solutions to the Bay Area’s chronic housing affordability challenges.”  Link To CASA webpage

In Dec 2018 the Committee issued a report, known as the CASA Compact – LINK

The recommendations in this report are 10 elements that are intended to influence actions by the region and the state and are likely to result in legislation in 2019, and beyond. Legislators have been coordinating with the MTC, and many believe that Scott Weiner’s SB 50 is the leading edge of the expected legislation.

Investigative journalist Zelda Bronstein explained CASA in a meeting hosted by Livable California. The video of her presentation “The Politics of CASA and a Warning to the Bay Area” is linked here: – LINK

Peter Cohen of CCHO commented in an op-ed published by the San Francisco Examiner entitled “CASA: The most important housing deal you’ve never heard of” and linked here: – LINK

Livable California sees some major weaknesses in the process and the Compact which are addressed here: LINK
